Oppa ‘Canteen’ style

If you are my friend or follow me in various micro blogging websites, you would already know that I am a huge BOMBAY BRASSERIE FAN and that I would openly agree that it’s my favourite stand alone restaurant in Chennai.  Bombay Brasserie, Adyar holds a special place in my heart as I visit the place pretty regularly. They have always been working on bringing new ideas to action and takes in customers’ feedback so seriously. Joy to the world, a new idea has come! They have introduced a new BOMBAY CANTEEN STYLE UNLIMITED WEEKDAY LUNCH BUFFET. YES. It’s Unlimited! Priced at Rs. 575+Taxes for both Veg and non Veg, this buffet major makes us all nostalgic and also acts as a perfect corporate lunch spot.

I have written a separate post on the ambience, service etc on BB, Adyar ( Click here to read ) and hence totally skipping it and moving on to the stuff that really matters now – FOOD! I had gone there twice, once as a blogger and once with my friends and the menu wasn’t exactly similar on both the days. When asked, they informed that it is a rotating menu and that we would get some surprise dishes every time . Isn’t surprise everyone’s favourite word?

1. Bombay Mix Bhel

Our Canteen style experience started when this waiter dressed like a ‘sundal vyabari’ approached our table, doing exactly what I mentioned previously . He served us Dry Bhel which is nothing but Puffed rice, Bhel, peanuts and other mixtures. Light on our stomach, this was a perfect snack before commencing the lunch.

2. Beverages ( extra)

We were served Pineapple cooler and Grape juice in a bucket. Reminded me of trains. I don’t know why! Both of them were refreshing and I liked the grape one a bit more.

3. Tomato soup

I loved the way the soup was served to us. The soup itself was SO YUMMY. Perfect amount of spice, I must tell you. ( For Non vegetarians, chicken soup would be served the same way)

4. Starters (VEG)

Paneer Tikka Romali is a DIY roll. It could get your hands dirty and your plates messy but it’s worth the experience. The salt was a tad bit less for my liking but the spices and the juicy Paneer compromised for it.

We gobbled up the Spicy Aloo tikki Chat in no time. I guess my friend went for a second serving too.

How can a Bombay style canteen food be complete without the authentic Vada pav and Bread Pakora!? The Vada pav was a killer. I personally felt that it was dry and sauces/chutneys would make a huge difference to the taste. Bread Pakoras were decent.

5. Main course ( VEG)

We were served garma garam rotis and naans with BINDI MASALA and MUSHROOM gravy which we forgot to capture in our camera because we were just too busy relishing the dishes.

BEST VEG BIRYANI IN TOWN! The aroma is so good and the taste…. even better. We had it along with Yellow Dal and we were full already.

6. Desserts

Choco bars, Jalebis and trifle pudding! ENOUGH SAID.

PRICE

After all the taxes, it comes up to Rs.650/- per head which IMO is a brilliant deal since you get a lot of varieties for an amazing taste and THEY ARE UNLIMITED! You also save your time on dividing the bill ( college kid problems).

Take your family/friends/colleagues to BB on a boring weekday afternoon and make your day instantly awesome!
