VaPho, a newbie in town is already making heads turn. Being Chennai’s first stand alone Fun dining Asian Canteen, it stands apart from other leading contemporaries in terms of it’s unique concept, quirky ambiance, fun games and most importantly..delicious FOOD. Located along with it’s brothers and sisters in Cathedral road ( Part of the Oriental cuisine chain), the yellow and green signboard was visually loud enough to attract us into the place and Valet services helped us to get to the place sooner.

A sunny afternoon and a bunch of ladies meant MOCKTAILS!! We were served Yummy creamy, Miloni crush, Bangkok mojito, Royale madras and Rangoon princess. While the tiny bits of tender coconut and a sniff of Cinnamon made Royale Madras a clear winner, the other mock tails were equally good and gave a tough fight.

After a round of satisfying drinks, we started our culinary journey with SAIGON PHO. PHO is the traditional dish of Vietnam and VaPHO boasts as the only place in Chennai to serve this dish authentically, thereby deriving the name VaPHO. They have both vegetarian and non vegetarian options and I chose the former, for obvious reasons.

For vegetarian Starters, I was quite pampered with choices. I stuck to Chilli Tofu Satay with a spicy coconut cream sauce and Kam heaong broccoli.
The Tofu satay was extremely soft and juicy. The sauce however didn’t flatter the dish.
The Malaysian style broccoli tossed with a lot of familiar spices was my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE. It is a must try for..you know.. Everyone.
Ah, moving on to the DISH OF THE DAY – Spicy Tofu Bao. Honestly, I had zero knowledge about Bao before having it here. It is steamed bun with stuffed spices in it. It was honestly the best savoury dish that day and quite filling. On those ,’ I am broke’ days, you have this alone and you are done.
Personally, I am never fascinated about Asian main courses. Same old noodles, rice with curries. This was no different as well. The non vegetarians had a lot more variety in their main course but well for me it was…amusing.

After a fun yet embarassing game of Jenga, we moved on to the finale. This HUMONGOUS DESSERT shown above can be easily shared by 4. Filled with anything and everything, this would be perfect for those sugar teethed chocoholics. My favourite dessert was the tender coconut Ice cream stick. Very light yet SO SO GOOD.
And that’s how our colourful, fun and tasty meal came to an end. Since it was on the house, we will not be commenting about the pricing as such but it comes to approximately 700-800 for two which is VERY VERY affordable for the overall package.
Let me know, if you try this place and comment below on how you liked it.
